Meet Our Vicar – Rev. Fr. P.J. Binu

Rev. Fr. P.J. Binu, is the spiritual leader of St. George’s Indian Orthodox Church, City of London. Known for his deep faith and commitment to pastoral care, Fr. Binu has served various parishes across India and the UK, bringing his extensive theological background and compassionate
approach to his ministry.
Early Life and Calling
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background?
A: I was born in N.R. Pura, and my journey into the priesthood began with a profound sense of
calling that led me to theological studies. I completed my Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.) at St.
Thomas Orthodox Theology Seminary in Nagpur, graduating with the 2002-2007 batch.
Q: When and where were you ordained?
A: I was ordained as a deacon on 6th June 2006 at Parumala and as a priest on 11th
September 2007 in N.R. Pura by H.G. Dr. Yakob Mar Irenaios.
Ministry Journey
Q: What has your ministry journey been like so far?
A: Over the years, I have had the privilege of serving in various parishes, including:
● Salem St. Gregorios (2007-2010)
● Port Blair St. Mary’s Cathedral (2010-2013)
● Mannarghat St. Gregorios (2010-2013)
● Chennai St. Thomas Puzhuthivakkam (2013-2016)
● Chennai St. Thomas Cathedral Broadway (2016-2019)
● Chennai St. George HVF Avadi (2019-2020)
● Canterbury St. Gregorios (2022-2023)
● Hayes St. Mary’s (2022-2023)
I arrived in the UK in November 2021 and have been serving the London community ever since.
Community Engagement
Q: How are you involved with the broader London community?
A: Beyond my parish duties, I volunteer as a pastoral chaplain at Hillingdon Hospital, providing
spiritual support to patients and their families, ensuring the comforting presence of faith in
challenging times.
Family and Personal Life
Q: Could you share a bit about your family?
A: I am blessed with a supportive family. My wife, Reji Binu Kochamma, is a nurse, and we
have two wonderful children – Gregory Jose Mathew, who is currently pursuing A-Levels, and
Sahana Mariam Mathew.
Vision and Reflections
Q: What is your vision for the church and its community?
A: My vision is to create a welcoming and spiritually enriching environment for all, ensuring that
our faith is passed down to future generations while embracing the diverse cultural fabric of the
UK. I aim to foster a strong sense of community and belonging, providing spiritual guidance and
support to all who seek it.
Q: Any message you would like to share with the parishioners and the wider community?
A: Let us continue to walk in faith, support one another, and extend the love of Christ to those
around us. Together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community.
